Welcome to Kinson Road Medical Centre

Kinson Road Medical Centre is run by Dr Andrew Brewer, supported by five associate GPs (Dr Philip Doust, Dr Emma McFarland, Dr Jo Shepherd and Dr Neeta Somani, Dr Robert Whitmey) and has approximately 11,000 patients. Our main surgery is at 440 Kinson Road and our branch surgery is in West Howe. We pride ourselves on being a very friendly practice and aim to provide a high standard of medical care to all our patients as well as a range of services to meet their needs.

When you join the practice, you will be registered with a named GP within the practice but you will be able to see any of the doctors, subject to their availability. If you wish to know which doctor you are registered with please just contact reception, this is also usually shown on any letters we send to you. You may attend either surgery. When making an appointment, just let the receptionist know who you would prefer to see and at which surgery. The receptionists will do their best to accommodate your preferences but, if your preferred doctor is away or his/her surgery is full, you will be offered an appointment with one of the other doctors or the triage nurse. We offer a range of appointments including same-day (this may take the form of a telephone consultation with either a GP or triage nurse and save you having to come to surgery) and advance booking.



19 July 2021 - Although the UK Government has lifted all legal restrictions relating to Covid-19 there are still guidelines for healthcare settings to support patient safety.  Social distancing remains in place within the surgery as does the requirement for our clinical team to wear PPE during face to face appointments and all patients must continue to wear masks within the practice.  

Due to the confined space and layout of our waiting room as well as to protect vulnerable patients access to the surgery will still be controlled - we can only allow a maximum of 5 patients within the waiting room area at any one time and a one-way system remains in place. 

All face to face appointments will be assessed remotely before being bought down to the practice.  We will continue to screen and ask questions relating to Covid symptoms.   

We are sorry this way of working remains in place and we recognise this can frustrate patients.  This isn’t our intention and it our responsibility to ensure we deliver care in as safe a way as possible.  The last year and a half has been really challenging and we have had to adapt the way we deliver services. 

We have had many staff develop Covid as well as participating in the huge vaccination project.  We also know it has been really difficult for the community and we want to thank you for your patience and understanding as we adapt to the pandemic. 

Unfortunately, in the last few weeks a minority of patients have demonstrated behaviour towards our staff that is abusive and aggressive, particularly to our reception team.  The belief that receptionists block access to appointments is a myth.  Appointments are not unlimited and there is exceptional demand at present – they will always do their best to find you an appointment. 

All staff at the practice should be able to come to work and carry out their roles in a safe environment.  We will take the necessary precautions to protect our staff which may mean withdrawal of access to our services.  

We understand there is a lot of worry and anxiety at the moment and we will do all we can to support the community’s health needs, but abuse towards our staff is not tolerated at our practice.

The feedback from 319 patients in February 2020 showed that 243 were extremely likely to recommend our practice to friends and family, 47 were likely to, 7 neither likely nor unlikely, 6 was unlikely to, sadly 12 were extremely unlikely and 5 didn't know.


Repeat prescriptions

As of 1st September 2019, to make processing of prescriptions more secure, all prescriptions will be sent electronically to your nominated pharmacy.  If you haven't nominated a pharmacy then it will be sent to Lloyds Pharmacy on Kinson Road.  If you would like to change this then please let us know as soon as possible.

Phase 4 information for GP practices - NHS Digital

We are upgrading to the next phase of the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) which will mean that almost all our prescriptions will be processed electronically from 11th March 2020.

Electronic prescriptions help save the NHS money.

You will receive your prescriptions in the same way as you do now.

Patient Online Services

Patient Online Access is a facility for patients to make an appointment (routine and non-urgent), request their repeat medication and view their medical records online.  For information read the leaflet below.  Should you wish to apply for online services you need to complete the form and return it to the practice. You will then need to collect your registration details and provide some photo ID.
